A final boss that WAS difficult but not anymore

Page 1 of 3Next

When I was listening to the commentary about designing Wheatley, I heard that they originally had Wheatley use Bombs, Crushers, and attaching turrets to himself. They took it off because they thought it would be too difficult.

My Question: Does anyone else want to have a harder final boss battle similar to the original battle?

Crazy is as crazy does.

Oh my gosh, truthfully I was very disappointed with the difficulty, it was way to easy in my opinion, took 1 try.

Yeah, it took me 2 tries because he crushed me when i was under him, but it was pretty easy. I think valve should make the original wheatley battle as a DLC.

Really?
Holy shit, I was mapping about a month ago making a boss battle and came upon the idea of attaching turrets to GLaDOS. Guess I used a beta feature on accident :P

But wow, I want to fight this Wheatley boss o:

Maybe we could convince valve to make a DLC with the original battle. I mean, I think these bosses are too easy. I played a source mod called Nightmare House 2 that had a final boss that was hard to beat and fun to fight. If any of valve's employee's are reading this, please make a DLC with the original wheatley battle!

I guess I'm the only one who had trouble with Wheatley. I died multiple times each on getting the green core and on the third bomb pattern before I figured out how to do them properly. Then I died a couple more times because I was too slow. Also, I fail at dodging bombs.

To me, GLaDOS seemed a bit easier in comparison.

It seemed about consistent with the first game, and consistent with the rest of the game.

The objective of the Wheatley fight was to give you just enough difficulty to convince you that he was trying (ineptly) to kill you, while keeping you moving through the story to the fun conclusion.

True, but I still think Valve should make a non-canon boss fight for a DLC. Trying to beat something actually difficult is more rewarding than people think.

I had no trouble with Wheatley, but I personally disagree he should be more difficult. The end of the game was very quick paced and linear, you're rushing to reach a conclusion to the story. Besides, the whole scene is really just to set you up for... well, Lunacy.

To me Portal isn't a game about action, defying death, timing, skill. It's just about logic and humor.

I know what you're saying, but it's common for video games to have a final boss that is difficult. When people get near the end of a game, they expect a challenging boss. People are usually disappointed if there isn't. I'm not saying change the entire boss fight in Portal 2, I'm saying that Valve should make a DLC that has a more difficult, non-story related, final boss fight. Kind of similar to the advanced test chamber like in the first Portal. You know, the Bonus Maps. Those were completely optional. So why not have an advanced boss fight that is also optional?
